Fauntleroy YMCA Community Survey

The attached letter recently sent from the YMCA talks about the results of last month’s community meeting, which includes the creation of this survey.

The partnership between the Y and the Fauntleroy Church has existed for over 100 years. The Y is requesting community input into the discussion about the future of the Y in the Fauntleroy community. We encourage people to read the attached letter and provide input to the Y through the survey.

Dear Fauntleroy YMCA Community,

We want to express our gratitude for your participation in the recent town hall event, where we discussed the future plans for our beloved Fauntleroy YMCA. The passion in the room was palpable — we thank you for your honesty and your vulnerability. We are committed to the Fauntleroy YMCA and look forward to working with the community to determine the best use for the space. We heard a lot of great ideas, and your thoughtful feedback is crucial as we navigate to ensure the continued success of the Fauntleroy YMCA.

We would also like to thank our staff who attended — and a special thank you to our West Seattle & Fauntleroy YMCA leaders who held space and committed to strengthening our ties in community. It will take both our staff and our community to revitalize the magic at Fauntleroy.

We also have collected all your feedback that we have heard so far from emails, conversations online and in person, and our town hall. To further gauge community needs, preferences, and interests, we’ve prepared a survey where you can rank the suggested ideas. Your input will help us prioritize and shape the future of the Fauntleroy YMCA. Please also share this survey and share this email with your Y community to help us ensure no one gets left out. In efforts to capture updated emails and more feedback, we will be sharing this survey at the West Seattle and Fauntleroy locations, the Fauntleroy Church, and with the West Seattle Blog.

What’s next?

You asked for more connection and communication. We want to honor that ask. We commit to walking alongside you on this journey so we can rebuild trust and harness the passion you have for your community. We have taken your words of wisdom and guidance to heart and have outlined the following high-level plan. In the next two weeks, you should expect a follow-up email. The communication will include a high-level plan for moving forward hosted on our website.

This plan should include: Communications, continued town halls formatted for collaboration, and project timelines Additional context about where we were pre, during, and post the COVID pandemic Committee involvement A place to ask more questions Please let us know if you feel something is missing or if you have another idea that should be included in that upcoming communication or questions that should be addressed.

In the meantime, if you have already signed up for a volunteer committee, we will be reaching out separately to discuss how we move forward with membership, project planning, and fundraising. If you did not have the chance to sign up, you can do so through the survey.
